Daniel Harris serves as Special Assistant to the President and the Managing Director at The Asia Group, delivering both administrative and substantive support. In this role he supports and facilitates the essential operations and activities of the firm, while also developing analyses and strategies for clients in the defense, aerospace, and energy sectors. He additionally provides strategic expertise for Asian clients with growing equities and exposure in the greater Middle East region. Before joining the Asia Group, Dan worked as an intelligence analyst at Strategic Social, providing clients and policymakers detailed critical analysis of events in South Asia and the Middle East. While there, Dan analyzed trends in the Iraq and Afghanistan combat theaters, writing and editing daily open source briefings for the Departments of State and Defense. In his writing, he specialized on political trends, energy, and the defense industrial sector.
After working with Strategic Social, Dan spent two and a half years living and working in Lebanon and Syria, where he worked as a freelancer for Executive Magazine, editing and writing articles focused on politics and business in the Middle East and North Africa region. Dan later spent time working as a Field Organizer for a presidential campaign during the 2012 general election in rural North Carolina, managing a field team of volunteers, interns, and full time staff.
Dan earned his Masters of Arts in Political Studies from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. He received his Bachelor of Arts from the Elliott School at George Washington University with a major in International Affairs and dual concentrations in the Middle East and Conflict & Security, in addition to time spent at the University of Damascus in Syria studying Arabic. Dan is proficient in Arabic and has studied Korean and Mandarin Chinese. He lives in Washington, D.C., and spends his free time fly fishing, reading, fencing, and watching college football.
