Jonathan Jeffrey is an Associate at The Asia Group. He works within TAG Analytics, the firm’s research service, generating timely analysis to help clients navigate pressing political and commercial developments across the Indo-Pacific region. At TAG Analytics, Jonathan examines macro and geopolitical trends and provides clients with breaking updates on important events and the region’s evolving challenges.
Prior to joining The Asia Group, Jonathan worked at the National Basketball Association’s Greater China Headquarters in Beijing, advancing the league’s government affairs strategy to promote the sport of basketball within the Chinese youth population. In this capacity, he liaised with Chinese ministerial officials and worked with league executives to develop partnership opportunities.
Prior to living in Beijing, Jonathan served as a research assistant to Ambassador R. Nicholas Burns while a student at Harvard University. He also worked at the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office, coordinating outreach to garner local government support for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the Obama Administration’s trade agenda. Previously, he worked for Teach For America in the Mississippi Delta, where he supported the organization’s teacher training operations and developed financial reporting tools to streamline the team’s grant management efforts.
As an inaugural Schwarzman Scholar, Jonathan earned a master’s degree in global affairs at Tsinghua University in Beijing. He researched how China’s changing economy impacts different provincial labor markets.
Jonathan graduated cum laude from Harvard College with a bachelor’s degree in history. Raised in Sonoma County, California, he previously worked in a vineyard and winery during the autumn harvest.
