Virgil Bisio

Analyst

Virgilio Bisio is an Analyst at The Asia Group focusing on the firm’s China portfolio and developing analytical products. Having lived in Asia for three years, Virgilio draws on his first-hand knowledge of the region and background in economic policy research to help clients understand its complex business environments and provide them with timely analysis of emerging policy trends.

Prior to joining The Asia Group Virgilio was the lead researcher on U.S.-China economic relations at the Asia Society Policy Institute where he developed and wrote research products for a high-level policy audience under the direction of the president. In his work at the Asia Society, Virgilio tracked and analyzed a wide range of topics including the Belt and Road Initiative, Supply Side Structural Reform, and U.S.-China trade and investment relations. Prior to that, he worked at the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations engaging key stakeholders and experts in promoting constructive relations and fostering mutual understanding. He has also conducted research for the Economist Intelligence Unit on local economic developments in Chinese cities and provinces.

Virgilio also brings direct experience from China’s semiconductor industry. For two years, he worked as a production supervisor at Payton Technology managing a cross-functional team for back-end integrated circuit assembly.

Virgilio holds a Master of Arts in East Asian languages and cultures from Columbia University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in history and Chinese from Trinity College. He is fluent in Chinese.
